Training

We are a Christian enabler for not only people with learning disabilities, but people who minister to them too. For many people with learning disabilities they find it difficult to communicate using traditional methods.

We run two main types of training day to equip churches:

Skills Development Days

These are interactive days where people learn from trying out new skills and discussing things with others on the course. Some of the teaching is available in advance with talks on all the key issues. It is helpful, but not essential to listen to these in advance. You can download them free of charge here, or contact our Ministry Administrator to order a CD.

Areas covered in the training include use of language, worship leading, planning and leading meetings, teaching, Makaton Signing and supporting people to participate fully.

Makaton in Worship Training Days

Many people with learning disabilities have limited language skills and use Makaton signs and symbols to converse and communicate needs. Often people who do not need the Makaton signs for understanding still like to use them, as this adds an extra dimension in worship, allowing people to use movement to express their appreciation of God.
